See the best of Santorini in 6 hours : Akrotiri excavations, Oia village and walk in Fira
Oia, the charming village of Santorini and Akrotiri, the best preserved prehistoric settlement in Greece come together with Fira, islands capital, in this interesting shore excursion package.
Enjoy a short trip by local boat, to Athenios harbour. Board your motorcoach and proceed to the archeological site of Akrotiri. Often compared to Pompeii, Akrotiri boasts a much earlier age and preserves amazing ruins dating back to the second millennium BC. Walk through the well kept passage way in the excavated area and marvel at the beautiful pottery, the two and three story houses, which were once decorated with renowned wallpaintings, the staircases and a great variety of rooms, roads and squares of a city 3,500 years old!
This tour is organized every day of the year except Mondays.
Return to your motorcoach and continue on through the beautiful countryside to Oia village. Built on the northern part of the caldera rim, it is here where many artists have been inspired due to its magnificent location, as you will see for yourself, with its most superb views of the caldera, the rest of the island itself and Aegean Sea. A guided tour combined with free time will be offered.
After Oia drive to Fira town. Fira is an attractive town perched on the Caldera rim where the land slopes gently in one direction and falls steeply in to the sea in the other. Both in Turkey and Greece, winters may be cold and summers hot. On the other hand, you will most probably be visiting archaeological sites with more or less walking difficulties. Hence an adapted outfit is recommended :
Do not forget !
Visiting archaeological site may require good physical conditions and access to people with reduced mobility is not always possible. During visits and stops, the buses will be locked and under the supervision of the driver. Hence, if you wish, you can leave some personal belongings in the bus yet at your own responsibility. If not done at subscription, inform your tour guide as soon as you get on the coach about your specific food requirements so that the restaurant booked for lunch can be informed accordingly in due time.
